Aaron Ackerman hosts educational tour of Haleola'ili'ainapono for the Hanahauoli Kindergarten Class to learn about Regenerative Building Design concepts.

Spent the morning with the Hanahauoli Kindergarten class trying to figure out how we as a human race are going to solve this mess called #climatechange and how #regenerativebuildingdesign plays a role. Not only has this become my #kuleana @bk_hi but let’s face it, these little guys are our only hope for the future! The Keiki are already so ma’a to these concepts it’s amazing. If I inspired only one it would still be worth the time but seeing 52 little eyes gleaming back at me with excitement over the #livingbuildingchallenge was enough to inspire me back. 🥰 #bowersandkubota

I had a lot of fun with the American Institute of Architecture Students AIAS West Quad Regional Conference hosted by the University of Hawaii at Manoa School of Architecture. I was honored to be invited as a keynote to share design concepts that demonstrate #kuleana as it relates to architecture in Hawaii. Keynote Thursday night followed up by two back to back educational tours of Haleola’ili’ainapono on Friday. Thanks @landon.hamada of @bk_hi for catching this drone shot of me with a group of inspired undergraduate architecture students from Washington, Oregon, California, Arizona and Hawaii learning about the #livingbuildingchallenge and #regenerativebuildingdesign concepts.

Blue Planet Foundation and Bowers+Kubota Partner Up to Submit LBC Demonstration Project Video to the 2019 AIA Film Competition

Blue Planet Foundation’s “We Are 100” campaign features 100 voices from our collective journey to 100% clean energy. Hawaii is the first state in the nation with 100% renewable energy targets for both electricity and ground transportation. But what does that mean for everyday residents and businesses in the islands? What is their role in our journey to 100%?

We Are 100 will tell their stories. (video created by Chloe Ma)

Aaron Ackerman Hosts Educational Building Tour for the AIA Young Architects Forum

The Young Architects Forum (YAF) is organized to address and advocate issues of recently licensed architects, defined as those licensed ten years or less.  These Architects are confronted with issues relating to their professional and personal lives; some of these are profession-wide while others are unique to their career and life stage. YAF is the voice of recently licensed Architects and the catalyst for future leadership and fellowship in the profession.

Once a year the YAF offers a Hard Hat tour to give members an opportunity to interface with relevant and innovative architecture projects within the State. For 2019 the YAF was excited to offer a Hard Hat tour of Aaron Ackerman’s Living Building Challenge Residence Demonstration Project in Palolo Valley. Participants learned about the Living Building Challenge program and were able to engage in an intimate dialog with Aaron about tackling a Living Building project from design through construction.
